Most players use a putter with way too much loft thus struggle with distance control. Yes, speed of green, grass type and other variables do come into play. Most golfer's dynamic loft (actual loft at impact) is too high. Both putts were made with the same Scotty Cameron Newport 2 (lofts were adjusted in between putts)on a 10 foot stimp green flat putt. The putt was 15 feet. The first putt the static loft was 1.8* with the dynamic loft at 1.4*. The second putt static loft was 4.5* with the dynamic loft at 4.1*. You can see how the 2.7* increase in static loft created a high launch, backspin and a lot of skid compared to good launch minimal skid and forward lean of the ball.
